The Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives. The BRDB was formed on the basis of the Bangladesh Rural Development Board Ordinance (Ordinance No. 53, 1982) issued by the Government of Bangladesh on 9 December 1972.The Board is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 21 (twenty one) members. The Board of Directors of BRDB consists of high ranking officials and cooperative representatives of various ministries / divisions / institutions of the government. Hon'ble Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The Board basically provides policy, long-term planning, coordination of ongoing activities and progress review, and guidance on future course of action.The Director General of BRDB is the Member Secretary of the Board and is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of the decisions of the Board. There are headquarters, district and upazila offices to implement the decisions taken by the board. The activities of BRDB are implemented, supervised and coordinated through these departments. All the activities of BRDB are conducted under the overall supervision of the
Director General. All activities are carried out through a two-tier administrative system consisting of head office and field office. Field level activities are conducted under the supervision of the field department. Field level offices include district office and upazila office. The Upazila Department implements field level activities and provides services directly to the people. The district headquarters acts as a bridge between the headquarters and the upazila office
